Energy Navigators are peer educators who work with local residents and organizations to help them learn about ways to reduce their energy use and transition to renewable forms of energy.
Energy Navigators receive a robust training to prepare them to make changes in their own lives and to help others over the course of their volunteer period. The Energy Navigators program was created in 2016 by Get Your GreenBack Tompkins, and was based in part on the successful model of Master Gardeners and Master Composters that Cornell Cooperative Extension associations use across the state.

“[For me, the Energy Navigator program has] satisfied my desire to make climate change an issue that ALL residents can counter, not just the residents who can afford solar panels and heat pumps.” -- Energy Navigator participant
The Energy Navigator program has won awards from Sustainable Tompkins and Cornell University, and Avangrid (NYSEG’s parent company) won a national Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative award in 2019 for partnering with our Energy Navigator program!
